Introducing Elly & Tommy!!
These guys are a great team and wonderful doggos together. In the home they are very well behaved and understand the rules - which were set out from the beginning and it didn’t take either of them very long at all to understand…two smart cookies this pair!! I have not trained them to stay off the furniture although neither of them get on the couch, nor jump up on the beds. They are both very polite around their food, no stealing from each other. Tommy is a little more discerning with his food and will leave it if he doesn’t feel particularly hungry, or if it’s not quite to his liking, Elly on the other hand will eat anything popped in front of her and will finish off Tommy’s if given the chance! When they are given bones (under supervision) there is no growling, no stealing, they are both very happy to eat their own and wait for the other to finish. No resource guarding with food, beds, or toys, with each other or humans. These are two just awesome hounds!!
Elly loves a pat and a belly rub, she will often give little nibbles when she is laying back and enjoying the attention. Tommy adores neck scratches, and when you get out of bed in the morning, he will roll over to show you his belly for a lovely belly rub!!
Elly is the more playful doggo who is often the instigator of play, inside or outside. She likes to play with her toys and toss them around, and despite being older is a little higher energy than Tommy. She likes to check up on what you are doing and where you are going and is then quite happy to go and have a snooze on her bed or stay with you where you are. Tommy is a little more sedate, although he does enjoy a good play with Elly and checking out the people and other doggos that walk past the yard. He enjoys a play after breakfast and will often give a bark to get Elly’s attention to come play. While Elly is more of an inside girl if you are home; if the door is open and the sun is out, you will find Tommy outside making the most of it.
They both travel well in the car, and can get in unassisted. They love to stick their snoots out of the window for a bit of the breeze and then will happily lay down.
They both walk excellently on lead and listen to voice commands. I have no issue walking both of them on my own. They are very interested in other doggos and will stare at them and become quite excited. We are continuing to work on this and I have noted an improvement. Based on their personalities, and their responses to being taught in other areas, I believe this will be quite easy to address. They will both benefit from further socialisation with dogs, and perhaps being on walks with two adults who can work with them to meet and greet other doggos politely. They are very happy with a 30 minute walk each day, although are also up for the longer walks, and would be more than happy with a couple of walks a day.
These two get along so well, I have absolutely no concerns leaving them alone during the day while I head off to work. They are very happy in each other’s company so will do fine in a family working full time.
If you’re looking for a loving pair of hounds who are very happy in each other’s company, and are loving toward their humans, these are your perfect match!!
