- A family that is home more than out or has a medium/large doggie companion for Nicky
At just 2 years old Nicky has her whole life ahead of her. She is incredibly sweet, sensitive and gentle. She also loves and thrives on affection and positive reinforcement. She also loves and thrives on affection and positive reinforcement.
Nicky struggled a little at first adapting to life as a companion but she has grown so much in spite of her initial shyness. Nicky is comfortable out and about and is very content to sit on her rug beside you wherever you are. Café; loves a pupaccino and or licking the dregs from your coffee cup. Park; loves sitting beside you in the sun whilst you read a book. Winery or beer garden; she’ll cheekily have a lick of your wine if you leave it laying around. Picnic; sharing any food, or her favorite; on the beachfront reserve eating fish and chips. And don’t forget to follow up the chips with a soft serve ice-cream.
Nicky is a fab traveler and settles immediately when you start the car, making it easy-peasy for you to take her with you when you go out. She has also become quite confident in crowded places, and enjoys the attention she receives from animal lovers of all ages. She love love loves her greyhound walks.
Fabulous on the lead, Nicky loves her walks and is very comfortable walking longer distances if that’s what is required. Equally Nicky is more than accommodating to spend time sniffing her way around the immediate neighborhood. She can put her head through the harness all by herself, just like a big girl. She also thinks helping YOU get your shoes on is a great game. Once done with her walk, Nicky is happy peacefully snoozing the day away in her safe space either inside or outside if it’s a warm fine day.
Nicky is a very sensitive girl and the slightest of ‘ah ahs’ will deter Nicky from doing most things she shouldn’t do around the home. She is very well mannered and although will sneak up and sit beside you if you are eating (hoping for a morsel) she is not pushy or greedy. She is the gentlest of girls when you give her a treat or a titbit.
Over the last couple of weeks, Nicky has started discovering the joy of play and loves a bit of wrestle. She is very careful not to be too rough. If she has room she will run around like a mad thing for a bit as well. She is very slowly learning toys can be fun.
There are a couple of things that Nicky will require some further support and education with. She is not the greatest communicator in letting you know when she needs a wee break, so she needs to be provided with outside access on a regular basis, but she has leaned that when we take her outside to ‘her spot’ and ask her to go, she will go when asked. Such a clever girl!!
Stairs are still a work in progress and she has good days and not so good days with them. We are working with her on the good days but not forcing her on the not so good days. Sometimes exploring confined spaces are a little difficult for Nicky too, though time and growth in her confidence will remedy her fears.
Nicky is also gaining confidence being left home alone outdoors in the “safe space” we have set up for her for short periods. As her confidence grows, these times will be able to be extended.
Nicky is very comfortable around other dogs of all breeds and a calm, settled, K9 companion could be very beneficial as she grows her confidence.
Do you think you could provide the loving environment Nicky would need to continue becoming the beautiful companion she is developing into?
